Caves to Caves Photographic tour

We have a very  special weekend coming up in August, teaming up with a multi award winning photographer Chris Pavlich, to offer a Caves To Caves tour with a twist.

Have you always wanted to understand your camera better? How to get that shot like the professionals get, maybe have a go at painting with light? Well, on this weekend Chris will run you through how to do all this and more!

Starting just out of Jenolan Caves , we meet at the National park entry. From here you are straight onto a dirt road and within 20 minutes you are crossing creeks and climbing hills! Whilst we are having a ball four wheel driving, Chris will also be offering help and instruction on how to get that perfect action shot!

We are heading this afternoon for a ghost town, with relics of its mining past and old mines to explore. This is where Chris’s skills will really shine, setting up the perfect shot in the afternoon light which stretches in to the dusk light and then into full night shots.

We’ll have a slow start the next morning, unless of course you are up at dawn taking in the beauty of the pre dawn light. We’ll begin our track down to Wombeyan Caves, driving through some magnificent forest areas along some great little tracks. The caves offer spectacular stalactites and stalagmites that are created by the infiltration of water into the caves over thousands of years and a great addition to this weekend.

Our aim is to arrive early enough to walk through the caves, or for those eager to get home, it’s not far to the Hume Hwy and back into Sydney.

All wheel drive SUV’s are welcome on this tour…an easy, fun filled couple of days packed with history and magnificent scenery.

The photographic side of this tour will include a guided tour photographing breathtaking scenery, heart-stopping action photos of yours and others’ 4WDs and an introduction to astrophotography and light painting.

Bring plenty to snack on, as we will probably have a late dinner, giving us time to shoot the beautiful sunset and post-sunset light. You also have the option to shoot sunrise at this beautiful historic location, seeing the old township wake up.

What to bring – A Camera! Any DSLR, mirrorless or even a simple point and shoot provided it has a full manual mode. iPhone and Android cameras are also welcome, and we ask that you install an app such as Slow Shutter Cam (IOS) for time exposures.

A tripod is essential for night photography, even for phone cameras so we can do light painting and astrophotography. A circular polarising filter is highly recommended for landscape photography but not absolutely necessary.

A wide lens, 16-35mm and a longer lens around 200mm would be great but not essential.

Chris’s recommendation is to shoot in RAW mode as opposed to .jpg. Please bring a laptop to upload images with Lightroom (1-week free trial )  or Luminar Neo which is a one-off payment of $108.00AU.

Please be familiar with your camera and its controls in Manual mode, but if you’re not sure, bring along the instruction book or familiarise yourself by looking on YouTube.

Most importantly bring your sense of fun and adventure, get ready to meet a bunch of lovely people who have similar interests and passions and who love photography, their 4WD and getting out into the beautiful Australian landscape.

This is an easy trip out of Sydney, and a fantastic introduction to photography.
