Gulf Country Savannah

**2024 TOUR – Fully accommodated and evening meals included at Lorella Homestead – Price TBA – OPEN TO EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST

The Gulf Savannah region offers the quintessential Outback experience. Extending from the Great Dividing Range in the east to beyond the Northern Territory border in the west. This expansive part of Australia covers an area of 186,000 square kms.

Our Gulf Country Savannah tour takes in a number of spectacular natural sights, including meandering river systems, tidal creeks, hot springs, lava tubes, and beautiful gorges full of wildlife. The landscape across the Gulf Savannah is incomparable, especially when you have the ability to get up close and personal in a 4WD. From sweeping grass plains to flowing rivers and shining sea, the changing landscapes of the Savannah are always impressive.

This year we will be starting the tour at Mataranka in the Northern Territory, the perfect place to camp the night before the tour begins, to enjoy the beautiful, soothing thermal pools before we head off the next day along the Savannah Way towards our first camp in Limmen National Park.

The next day we’ll explore the amazing 500 million year old sandstone structures that resemble an ancient civilisation, in the Lost City in Limmen National Park, enjoying a peaceful sunset walk at our camp that night.

Over the next few days, we’ll spend time at the stunning one million acre cattle property, Lorella Springs. One of the jewels of this trip, you’ll have plenty of time to explore the property, with diverse, open floodplains, salt flats and mangroves, abundant in bird and animal wildlife, ending our days relaxing in the soothing thermal pool at the camp spot. In 2024, and only as part of a pre-booked outback tour group like ours, will you be able to visit Lorella, staying in their accommodation, and including evening meals.

Heading further along the iconic Savannah Way we’ll visit the magnificent Lawn Hill National Park, staying at Adels Grove, an oasis under the shady trees, a perfect place to refresh and relax by the water.

From here we’ll head up through Normanton and into Karumba for the night, taking in a magnificent sunset over the water.

Further along the track we camp at Cobbold Gorge in the heart of the Gulf Savannah region, an ancient landscape that you’ll get to experience first hand on one of their boat tours through the gorge.

Heading further east we’ll spend time at Undara Volcanic National Park, with time to enjoy a tour of one of the Lava tubes included in the tour and absorb the rich history of the area.

On our last day we’ll drop in at Innot Hot Springs for a quick soak before finishing in the beautiful Atherton Tablelands town of Malanda, by the cool, refreshing falls…

The Gulf Savannah really is a true frontier destination and 4WD-ing paradise.
