Simpson Desert & Central Australia Tour
Our unforgettable 10-day Simpson Desert and Central Australia tour begins in the historic outback town of Birdsville. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to enjoy a hearty meal at the renowned Birdsville Hotel and meet your fellow travellers before embarking on this remarkable adventure.
On our first morning, we set off into the Simpson Desert via the iconic QAA Line, where the journey across the vast sand dunes begins. For those feeling adventurous, there’s an opportunity to take on the legendary Big Red, the largest dune in the region. We take a relaxed approach to the crossings, ensuring everyone has ample time to fully experience this breathtaking landscape.
After traversing the desert, we arrive at the serene Dalhousie Hot Springs—a welcome retreat where you can soak in the warm artesian waters, a true oasis in the outback. That evening, we settle into the comforts of the Mt Dare Hotel, where a hot shower and a delicious meal await.
Leaving the desert behind, we travel north to Chambers Pillar, a striking natural formation steeped in Indigenous and explorer history. We rise early on day six to witness the sunrise over the Pillar before continuing to Rainbow Valley, a spectacular location where we set up camp for the night.
Next, we journey to the stunning Palm Valley, a unique oasis filled with ancient cycads and dramatic gorges. A scenic walk through the valley provides an opportunity to fully appreciate this remarkable landscape. With hot showers and modern amenities available, this stop offers both comfort and natural beauty.
We then venture into the remote wilderness of the Finke River National Park, passing through Boggy Hole, an area rich in tranquility and unspoiled landscapes. This portion of the trip allows you to immerse yourself in the solitude and serenity of Central Australia’s rugged outback.
As we move forward, we rejoin the more well-known touring routes with a visit to Kings Canyon. Here, you may choose to embark on the iconic 3-4 hour Rim Walk, offering breathtaking views, or opt for the gentler Kings Creek Walk, a scenic one-hour trek. That evening, we enjoy the conveniences of a well-equipped campground.
Our journey then takes us to one of Australia’s most iconic landmarks—Uluru. We spend our final night at the Yulara campground, complete with modern facilities, and conclude our adventure with an unforgettable sunset over Uluru—a truly fitting end to this incredible outback experience.
