Simpson Desert Central Australia Tour

Simpson Desert Central Australia Tour

Our Simpson Desert Central Australia tour starts in outback Birdsville where you can enjoy a meal at the iconic pub and meet your fellow travellers the night before we start our trip.

The first morning we head out into the Simpson via the QAA line for the start of dune crossings, and for those brave enough, the opportunity to tackle the famous Big Red! We’ll take our time crossing each dune, ensuring no one is rushed and allowing for the occasional second crack at a difficult one.

After our time in the desert we head to Dalhousie hot Springs, like an oasis after the desert, this spot will soothe any weary traveller with a dip in the warm artesian water. We then make camp that night in civilisation at Mt Dare Hotel where we can have a hot shower and a big feed in the hotel.

We leave the desert behind us after leaving Mount Dare and start travelling north for our camp at the beautiful Chambers Pillar, one of my favourites! On day six we have an early start to see sunrise on the Pillar before heading off again to Owen Springs, where we will pull up for the night.

From here we are off to the beautiful Palm Valley, a top spot and a cracker of a walk through the gorge. There are also flushing toilets and hot showers here and the sunset on the rocks is simply stunning.

Now it’s off into some more remote areas around Boggy Hole in the Finke River National Park. You’ll love the drive through here, camping along the way and enjoying all the serenity that remote Central Australia has to offer.

Continuing on, we leave behind the remote areas and join the tourist circuit with a night at Kings Canyon and the opportunity to do the 3-4 hour Rim walk, with magnificent views, or perhaps the slightly easier 1 hour walk along Kings Creek. Tonight we are in the campground, so all facilities are available.

From Kings canyon we head over to Uluru, staying at the Yulara campground with all the facilities, including a supermarket, and at sunset we’ll finish our tour watching the sun go down over Uluru…what a fitting end to an action packed 10 day tour.
